Tree seed nests

I have been cutting and burning magic logs lately and I found a few bird nests that dropped from the tree I was cutting. Sometimes a bird nest contains a ring and on other times I found a tree seed in the nest. I have never seen or heard of another way to find or pick tree seeds. What do birds know that we cannot learn? If I were a bird I would probably eat the seed and not hide it in my nest...
